What Is Token Gating? #
The term “token-gating” refers to the idea that a website or app can require a user to own a certain NFT before going any further. NFTs are digital assets owned on a decentralized ledger known as blockchain. NFTs by themselves do nothing and therefore have no objective value. However, when utility is applied to a token a creator or merchant can do anything. NFTs have been sold as access keys to movies, live-streams, in-person events, physical goods and more. In order to facilitate token gating a website must be properly coded, which can be tedious.
